After what seems a lifetime ago, the long anticipated rescheduling of the Pennants final due to COVID-19 restrictions, with the revised date and change of venue allowing Caloundra 1 & Caloundra 3 teams to compete in the final event was set at their home club on Sunday 20th September, which was a fitting venue for the final contest. The conditions could not have been any better on the day, where……………
Caloundra Golf Club had their course set up immaculately for the keenly contested matches, which also included all the Division finals.
Captain of Team 1, Liam Dawson (P1 below) won the toss and Brady Mann took the honours for Team 1 on the first tee to get proceedings started. Brady was up against his old mate Will Stringer, so it was fitting that these two got to play against each other in their final Junior Pennants event.
The match was a closely fought contest, played in great spirit with plenty of friendly banter between the two, with Brady eventually winning on the 17th.
The second match was contested between the two youngest members of each side, Riley Bell for Team 1 & Marley Arnott for Team 3.
Marley sounded his intentions early when he bombed his first tee shot down the middle in a similar fashion to his older brother Bailey, albeit Marley being a lefty.
Opposition Captain Liam Dawson did question Marley if he was standing on the right side of the ball prior to teeing off.
The match was all square after the first 5 holes, then Riley holed out for birdie from the greenside bunker on the short par 3, 6th hole and this seemed to kick Riley’s game into gear as he went on to win a string of holes and secure the match on the 14th hole to give Caloundra 1 the overall victory.

It was unfortunate there was a late withdrawal on the morning of the final from Caloundra team 3’s No 1 player, and as there was no eligible replacement available the third match was awarded to Caloundra 1 to make the final result 3-0.
However, Jordan Speare (Captain of Caloundra team 2) had come down to support the other two teams and as luck would have it had brought his clubs with him so an unofficial “friendly” match was organised between Liam & Jordan and unofficially Liam took out this match.

Eric King, Director of Golf for SCGA firstly acknowledged the outstanding contribution and mentoring that both Jordan Speare & Liam Dawson had provided to the younger juniors at Caloundra Golf Club and then went on to present the runners up & winners flags to the team captains.
The final presentation was for the junior pennant player of the year and this went to Riley Bell from Caloundra team 1 with a record of four wins and one halved match and joint runners up went to Ellianna MacRae (Maroochy River) & Jaxson Smith (Noosa) with four wins and one loss each.
Riley was very excited to receive his award in front of his very proud family and team-mates.
