It’s hard to believe what a difference a week makes, from Mt Coolum being washed out with torrential rain just a week earlier, to Sunday, where Caloundra hosted their Junior Classic in picture perfect condition to the delight of our juniors and their families, who have been starved of competitive golf and they certainly made the most of the occasion, particularly for………………………….

Chris Somerfield (Brisbane) Teeren Kannan (Pelican Waters) and Adam Van Dorsselaer (Mt Coolum) after forcing the Caloundra Junior Classic into a sudden death play-off with rounds of 73, which was to be played over two extra holes (1-2) and if there was no winner, the boys were to go back to the tee box and play the second hole again, this time, the N’T’P was declared the winner. Which was won by Chris after putting his ball two and a half metres from the pin.

Ionna Muir (Maroochy River) won the Girls Title with a hard fought 78.

Congratulations to Brock Armitage (Pelican Waters – pictured below p-4) for playing the perfect 8 iron into 6th to record his first ever “Hole in One” which is a feat that most golfers never get to achieve in a lifetime of playing the game. (Well done Brock from everyone on Tour)

Both Chris Somerfield and Ionna Muir’s (p1-2 below) performances qualified them for The Invincibles IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championships, that will be hosted by Peregian Golf Course, Twin Waters, Pelican Waters and Noosa Golf & Spa Resort from the 27th to the 30th of September.

Dean Sae-Ung (Caboolture p3) won The Invincibles Course Cup with 69 nett, which in turn qualified him for their Gold Cup of Cups Championship, that will be hosted by the magnificently manicured Noosa Springs Golf and Spa Resort, Sunday November 29, followed immediately by The Invincibles Presentation Dinner “Covid-19 conditions permitting”.

The Invincibles Inter-Club Team shield points went to: Pelican Waters who earned four point for coming first with 219, Caloundra was second on 223 to receive 2 points and Maroochy River took out third place on 236 to collect 1 point.

The Invincibles Tour would like to pass on their thanks and appreciation to Jason Looker (Manager) and Tom Arnott (Head Professional) who have always been enormously generous supporters of The Invincibles Tour, and go out of their way where ever possible to make sure our Tour and junior golf in general is given every opportunity to thrive and we would like to thank not only them, but also their Caterer’s, Bar & Office Staff, Ground Staff, and the team in the Pro Shop who had their course and facilities set up magnificently to host their Classic, but most importantly, in the way they make everyone feel so welcome.

We believe we speak for everyone when we say it is lovely to have Frank back on Tour, his company and support is invaluable and very much appreciated.

The Tour would also like to thank Kumar Kannan and Indika Samararatne for helping out with the play-off, again it was much appreciated.

Highlights on the day included: Teeren Kannan’s up and down from the bunker and Ionna Muir’s and James Riseley’s approaches to nine to salvage their pars were brilliant, also Jordan Speare’s up and down on nine to save par, Sam Wilson’s par on the long par five 4th, and last but not least was Brodie MacRae’s trick shot when he bounced his ball off the water on the 6th hole, which were just a few of the many, many highlights during the day!

Once again, it would be fair to say by looking at the scores, that we need to get the rust off our clubs and games and get back into the swing of things, maybe the Mt Coolum, Pampling / Kirk Zone and District Championships on Sunday the 16th of August would be a good starting point.
