After experiencing extreme drought and horrendous bush fires across the South-East Coast of Australia “from Perth to Canberra and up to central Queensland” it came as no surprise to those contesting the Mt Coolum 2 Day Summer Classic, that no one, was concerned or put out by the much needed rain that fell over the two days, as they knew, it was giving our fire fighters and emergency services much needed respite and desperate relief, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our emergency services and volunteers for the enormous…………..

Effort and hard work they’ve put in over the past five months, in the hope of keeping our community and wildlife safe.

So, on behalf of The Invincibles Tour and the golfing community throughout Australia, we would like to say thank you for everything you have done, it’s very much appreciated.

The Mt Coolum layout has always been a tough challenge and given the conditions, it was a credit to all contestants that they recorded the scores they did, particularly Pratyush Bharadwaj (Brisbane) and Lydia Shackell (Hervey Bay) who took out the 2 Day Classic with combined 2-day scores of 71-71=142 and 78-77=155 respectively.

Given the forecast, it was a great sight to witness the large contingent of Queensland’s finest junior golfers gathered together to contest what is the opening junior event on the Sunshine Coast for 2020, where after the Xmas break, we were looking forward to catching up with Tour team mates as they

tested their game against what is arguably one of Queensland’s, if not Australia’s most unique and challenging golf courses.

A course that boasts 6 par 3’s, 6 par 4’s and 6 par 5’s. A layout that proved a true test of everyone’s game!

Runner-up in the boy’s division with 69-74=143, reigning Ian Baker-Finch Junior Classic Champion, Josh Liston’s (Emerald Lakes) 69 on day one, equalled The Invincibles Mt Coolum Course Record that is jointly held by Matthew Samen-Curtis (Headland) and Blaike Perkins (Pelican Waters).

By winning the boys and girls divisions, both Pratyush and Lydia (p 1-2 below) qualified for The Invincibles IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championship that will be hosted by the very generous Peregian Golf Course, Twin Waters, Pelican Waters, and Noosa Springs Golf and Spa Resort during the last week of the September School holidays (Sunday the 27th to Wednesday the 30th of September).

The Invincibles Course Cup was won by Miles Ramagnoli (Caloundra p-3) with combined scores of 135, that in turn qualified him for The Invincibles Gold Cup of Cups Championship that will be hosted by Pelican Waters Golf Club, Sunday the 29th of November, followed immediately by The Invincibles Annual Junior Presentation Dinner.

A very excited Miles was thrilled to qualify for the Gold Cup of Cups, and that’s quite understandable, particularly when you reflect back on his performance at his home club’s Caloundra Junior Classic mid last year, where he recorded a brilliant 59 nett, but wasn’t eligible to qualify given he wasn’t an Invincibles Member.

This year Miles wasn’t going to make the same mistake, so mum (Tobi) joined him up and you guessed it, he qualified in the first event of the year, just two weeks after lodging his Invincibles membership!

Highlights over the two days included; Brock Armitage (Pelican Waters - p4 above) who recorded a “Better Than His Best Performance” by four shots, after going through his front nine holes one under “an unfortunate double bogie on the par 5-17th” from nowhere coursed a ripple in the camp, but he rallied to par the 18th to finish one over (what a brilliant effort)

Not to be outdone, Ionna Muir (Maroochy River) put in her own “Better Than Her Best Performance” when she bettered her previous best score of 79 by two shots, and both Brock and Ionna agreed that it doesn’t get any better than "Bettering Your Best Performance".

Another brilliant highlight was witnessing Adam Van-Dorsselaer’s (Mt Coolum) drive, approach over the water on 17 to within two metres and eagle putt was world class and well worth the entry fee!

“If you witness any highlights during a competition, please let Graeme know so we can all enjoy the moment?"
