On a day that started out with the weather forecasters predicting storms rolling in midmorning, which was something that we were all thrilled to say, didn’t eventuate, but for those that took the opportunity to contest the 2020 Maroochy Rivers Junior Open were treated to perfect conditions and what finished up being a great day out. Particularly in the Girls division, which went right down to the wire after both Mary Golder (Dalby pictured with Tyler) and……….
Keely Purdey (Royal Queensland – p3 below) went into a sudden death playoff, where Mary won on the second playoff hole with a par, after both girls finished even par 72, after 18 holes.
The ball striking between both girls was quite spectacular, but it all came down to a three-meter putt on the second play-off hole that Mary sunk to resolve a very tight finish, that was played in great spirit.
The boy’s division saw a tight tussle all day between Tyler Quaill (Maroochy River) Liam Thomson (Nudgee) and Jack Elsley (Mt Coolum) where they finished with rounds of 76, 77 and 79, respectively.
The Tour would like to congratulate both Mary Golder (Dalby) and Tyler Quaill (Maroochy River p1-2 below) for their outstanding performances in qualifying for The Invincibles IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championships, that will be hosted by Peregian Golf Course, Twin Waters, Pelican Waters and Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort from the 27th to the 30th of September.
Juhi Rampersad (Pacific Harbour - p4) won The Invincibles Course Cup with 66 nett, which in turn qualified her for their Gold Cup of Cups Championship, that will be hosted by the magnificently manicured Noosa Springs Golf and Spa Resort, Sunday the 29th of November, followed immediately by The Invincibles Presentation Dinner “Covid-19 conditions permitting”.
The Invincibles Inter-Club Team shield points went to Maroochy River who earned four point for coming first, Noosa Springs was second to receive 2 points and Pacific Harbour who came in third to collect 1 point.
The Invincibles Tour on behalf of their members, families and guests, would like to pass on their thanks and appreciation to Jim De Pietra (Men’s Captain) along with Jennie Barnes, the Pro Shop and their caterers, office and ground staff for having their course and facilities set up magnificently to host their Open, but most importantly, in the way they made everyone feel so welcome.
It is always extremely rewarding to witness our past and present members giving back to the game, by mentoring and encouraging our younger members that are just starting out and that was once again on display on Sunday, when Shae Wools – Cobb a past member and very strong supporter (Invincibles Ambassador) came along to support and follow with interest the new generation coming through.
I just love it, it takes me back to the days when my parents used to drive me in from Kingaroy, three hours each way to contest Invincibles events. It’s been a magical part of my life, a time that I will never forget and always be grateful for, Shae said.

It was also a fantastic sight, to see past members of The Invincibles Tour, in Kimberley Crawley and Luke Parker doing everything in their power to support the day, both on the course and in the Pro Shop!
Highlights on the day included: Witnessing Tyler Quaill, after winning the boys division heading out to support Keely in the play-off, Liam Thomson’s 30ft putt on 3 to save par and driving the green on 6 to set up his “Eagle”, Marley Habermann’s 20ft putt on 4 to save par, Jack Elsley, Ellianna MacRae and Shae Coghlan’s tee shots on 12 to set up their birdies, and Juhi Rampersad’s tee shot on the same hole, Tyler Quaill’s 50ft birdie putt on the 3rd and Sienna Coghlan’s 5m putt on 6 for birdie, which were just a few of the many, many highlights during the day!
Highlights in the 4 – 9-hole divisions saw Bow Matthews spectacular tee shot on the 1st, Brodie MacRae’s bunker shot and putt on 5, along with Harrison Darr recording his bet ever score which again were just a few of the many highlights on what was a great day out.
If you wish to become a member of the tour, it is as simple as clicking on the link below and follow the instructions because we hate to see juniors miss out on awards or accolades they would be entitled to if they were Invincibles members?
A small request, if you witness any positive news in relations to our juniors, whether it be at a junior event or not, please text it through to Graeme on 0417 783 848 so we can all enjoy the moment. This is important for a couple of reasons not the least being is that if we don’t know, we cannot consider them for special awards or acknowledgements!
So, if you could please help us with this, it would be much appreciated.
From an Invincibles perspective: we know we speak for our members and their families, when we extend a special thanks and our appreciation to our sponsors and supporters (below) for the massive input and support they give to Junior Golf and The Invincibles Tour.
Their support helps us enormously with the promotion and development of Junior Golf on the Sunshine Coast which is something we don’t take for granted and very much appreciate.....
We would also like to make special mention of The Invincibles Committee who do an excellent job behind the scenes to make sure The Tour runs well, in particular Joss Quirk, Frank Schmidt, and Neil Charkow. They give their time so willingly to help at events, behind the scenes or with The Invincibles website in the hope of making sure that your golfing experience is just that much more enjoyable.
