If you’re in Queensland on holidays or a local that loves their golf, beaches, restaurants or just relaxing with friends, then you really can’t go past the beautifully presented and friendly hospitality that Twin Waters Golf Club and the Sunshine Coast has to offer.
The world-renowned Twin Waters Golf Club is situated right in the heart of the Sunshine Coast, a very casual five-minute drive north to the Sunshine Coast Airport.
If you haven’t visited the reformed and beautifully presented Twin Waters Golf Course (Queensland - Australia) or enjoyed a round of golf on their challenging par 72 layout, that's situated a comfortable sixty-minutes drive North of Brisbane, then you are really missing out on one of Queensland’s and the Sunshine Coasts most enjoyable experiences.

After experiencing torrential rain, lightning, thunder, and record size hail leading into Ian’s Classic, it was accepted by most that took part that we dodged a bullet, as things improved dramatically and just in time for the team at Twin Waters to prepare their course and facilities magnificently to host a fantastic day’s competition.
Particularly for Shyla Singh (Southport) and Kai Komulainen (Emerald Lakes) who recorded excellent rounds of 67 and 71 respectively to claim the Ian Baker-Finch Junior Classic Titles for 2021 and thanks to Ian, they each received a $1000 scholarship to be used for coaching, accommodation, and travel to a major event of their choosing.
Shyla followed up her brilliant performance just two weeks ago at The Invincibles IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championship where she just missed out on equaling the Noosa Springs Golf Clubs official course record with a six under par 66.
To follow up at Ian’s Classic, Shyla equaled the Invincibles Course record that was set by Lion Higo at last year’s event, 67 gross.
Shyla put her good performance down to her putting, which was the difference today, they were just dropping from everywhere, an excited Shyla said.
The boy’s division, saw a play-off between Kai Komulainen and Adam Van-Dorsselaer (Mt Coolum) where Kai won with a birdie on the second Play-off hole, the eighteenth.
Kai said that he came to realise "with a broad smile on his face" that if he put the ball on the fairway, i was in with a better chance of winning.
Unfortunately, like last year, Ian and Jennie couldn’t be with us to present his awards in person, given Covid, but he did send his best wishes and congratulations to the winners and everyone that participated and thanked everyone, including the parents, families, Twin Waters Golf Club and The Invincibles Tour for helping make his day such a great success, even against the odds.
Like last year, thanks to the support and generosity of Golf Australia, both the Boy and Girl winners of Ian’s Classic will receive an invitation into the final qualifying round of the Isuzu Queensland Open. (Date to be advised).
Given that Shyla is reigning Champion (p4 below) and already has an exemption into The Invincibles 2022 Junior Masters, the Tour would like to congratulate both Sarah Hammett and Kai Komulainen (Both from Emerald Lakes p1-2 below) for their outstanding performances in qualifying for the 2022 Invincibles IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters Championships, that will be hosted by Peregian Golf Course, Twin Waters, Pelican Waters and Noosa Springs Golf & Spa Resort from the 25th to the 28th of September.
Rian Mitchell (Headland p3 above) playing off a thirty-one handicap won The Invincibles Course Cup with his 68nett on c/b from Shyla.
Unfortunately, Rian’s handicap was greater than 27 which makes him ineligible to qualify for the Cup of Cups Final.
This means, Shyla (p4 above) who also had a 68nett, qualified to for the Gold Cup of Cups Championship, that will be hosted by the magnificently manicured and presented Noosa Springs Golf and Spa Resort, Sunday the 21st of November, followed immediately by The Invincibles Presentation Dinner.
Unfortunately for Byron Rieck (Sanctuary Cove p3 below) his brilliant 65nett was a fantastic result but given he is not an Invincibles member meant that he was not able to be considered for the Course Cup!
A very happy Jemima Balwin (Virginia p4) was thrilled to bits to record her first win and accept her first ever award!
The “Brett Martell” Invincibles Inter-Club Team shield points went to Southport with 209 to earn four points for coming first, Royal Queensland was second to receive 2 points with 214, with Emerald Waters taking out third place with 216 to earn one point.
The Invincibles Tour on behalf of Ian Baker–Finch, their members, and supporters, would like to pass on their thanks and appreciation to Callaway Australia and Golf Australia for their enormously generous sponsorship and support of the Ian Baker-Finch Junior Classic.
Their support and commitment to Junior Golf throughout South East Queensland is a major reason why The Invincibles Tour has the enviable reputation it has, and that is something we and our members don’t take for granted and would like to build on in years to come.
The Invincibles Tour on behalf of Ian, their members, families and guests, would also like to pass on their thanks and appreciation to Steve Hutchison (Manager – Twin Waters) along with his great team in Dom, Jacob (Admin team) James and Debbie (Bar) and Terry & Lisa (Chef’s) for hosting what was a magnificent day, but most importantly for making everyone feel so welcome.
Highlights on the day included: Lilly Surasen’s chip in on the third for birdie after birdying the second, Tyler Quaill’s hole out from 60m on six for eagle and Shyla’s chip in on the seventh for birdie.
Other highlight included, Will Bowen’s brilliant approach to within three foot to set up his eagle on the fourth hole, Kate McFarlane, and Amy Hodgkins tee shots on two to set up their birdies, after Amy birdied the first and Shyla’s putting display during the day.
There was also Hayden Lierse and Jackson Loves approaches to five to set up their birdies, Adam Van-Dorsselaer’s brilliant shot from the trees on five and Yuuki’s Takada’s tee shot and putt for her birdie on eleven, which were just a few of the many, many highlights during the day!
The Tour would like to thank those that took the time to pass on highlights and photographs of the day, and request that if you do happen to witness any positive news in relations to our juniors, whether it be at a junior event or not, please text it through to Graeme on 0417 783 848 so we can all enjoy the moment.
This is important for a couple of reasons, not the least being, is that if we don’t know, we cannot consider them for special awards or acknowledgements!
So, if you could please help us with this, it would be much appreciated.
A full rundown of results can be found on The Invincibles App and the Gallery will be posted shortly, so please keep an eye on The Invincibles website.
From an Invincibles perspective: we know we speak for our members and their families, when we extend a special thanks and our appreciation to our sponsors and supporters (below) for the massive input and support they give to Junior Golf and The Invincibles Tour.
Their support helps us enormously with the promotion and development of Junior Golf on the Sunshine Coast which is something we don’t take for granted and very much appreciate.....
We would also like to make special mention of The Invincibles Committee who do an excellent job behind the scenes to make sure The Tour runs well, in particular Joss Quirk, Frank Schmidt, and Neil Charkow. They give their time so willingly to help at events, behind the scenes or with The Invincibles website in the hope of making sure that your golfing experience is just that much more enjoyable.
