On what was a perfect day for golf, a day, where everything was set up magnificently to contest the finals of the 2018 Sunshine Coast Zone Pennants season, and thanks to Cooroy Golf Club, who took great pride and pleasure in having their course and facilities in excellent condition to host what was to become a very exciting days golf. It was a brilliant effort by the team at Cooroy, particularly…………

When you consider the 800mm of rain they experienced leading into the finals, but even that wasn’t about to deter Mount Coolum or the Maroochy River juniors from giving it their best shot to see who was going to claim the Sunshine Coast Junior Pennants Championship Title for 2018.

After coming agonisingly close last year, Mount Coolum claimed bragging rights until next season after a nail biting finale’ where Bailey Koch (MC) and Tom Flaskett (MR) match finished 3/2 in favour of Tom, where both boys played some excellent golf.

If any one person epitomised the true values of sportsmanship and attitude, it would have to be Bailey Koch (Mt Coolum) who repeatedly gave away big handicap differences, but never gave up, which was a true test of his character. Even when he lost his match in the finals, the first thing he did was think about his team mates and set about caddying for Jack Elseley to see if he could help him get over the line “the rest is history” which just goes to show, that you don’t have to be a winner to be a champion?

Jack Elseley (MC) won 3/1 against Daniel Robson (MR) where both boys gave it everything that they

had and played within the true spirit of the game, as did all the contestants and their caddies.

The match between Wilson Foster (MC) and Tyler Quaill (MR) proved to be an incredible match “The decider” that saw Wilson go 4 up after eleven holes, only to see young Tyler fight back, and fight back he did as he closed the gap to 1 up in favour of Wilson by the seventeenth after chipping in from off the green on fifteen.

The three men photographed with the juniors below are, Barry Degenhardt (staunch supporter of junior golf at Mt Coolum) and Jim Di Pietrc (Junior Co-Ordinator Maroochy River) and Chris Quaill (manager).

Going down the par five eighteenth, the match and title was still well and truly up for grabs, game on, anyone’s match, but Wilson’s brilliant up and down closed out the match 1 up and gave Mount Coolum Golf Club a well-earned Pennants Title after being so close in the past and finishing on top of the round robin series at seasons end.

Wilson Foster (MC) was the deserved winner of the Player of The Season Award, with Jack Elseley (MC) and Brendan O’Brien (Noosa) being named runner – up!

Major highlights were the drives of Tom Flaskett and Bailey Koch down the first, Jack Elseley’s putt to save par on 5 and tee shot and putt for birdie on 15 to go 1 up, Wilson’s par on 7, Jack & Daniel’s approach to 13.

We believe most would agree, that the spirit in which all matches were played, was a major highlight and a pleasure to be associated with.

The sportsmanship, camaraderie and friendships that was on display between the players, caddies, and club members, was just brilliant, as was the case all year with those that participated in the Sunshine Coast Zone Pennant Season!

Another major highlight was hearing how proud the parents were of their children “win, lose or draw and without exception” they were proud of the sportsmanship, attitude, and the way they represented themselves. Parents Todd Foster and Chris Quaill said, they really did themselves proud, like all the parents out there, we couldn’t have asked for anymore!

Now that the Pennants Season is over for 2018, The Invincibles Tour is looking forward to getting back out on "Tour" and we would like to invite everyone to join us?
