Congratulations to Mount Coolum Golf Club for hosting yet another brilliant Junior Open!

It only seems like yesterday that Mount Coolum had to call off their Junior Open due to a lack of numbers and interest. We are now faced with the embarrassing situation of having to turn people away not because of late entries or juniors doing the wrong thing but for no other reason than junior golf on the Sunshine Coast is growing in popularity and because the course was full to capacity with one hundred and twenty seven juniors enrolling prior to the cut off point, which left Mount Coolum no other alternative than to turn juniors away!!

As everyone’s aware, it’s been a long held dream of The Invincibles Tour to have one hundred plus juniors competing at every Junior Classic / Open across the Sunshine Coast and if Sunday is any indication of things to come, and I’m sure it is, then junior golf is looking very healthy and we are well on our way to achieving that dream.

Rae Clarke “Greg Norman Junior Golf Foundation” was thrilled to bits with the turn out and with the standard of player that turned up to compete!

As we’re all well aware with success comes a certain amount of frustration but I must say that I hate seeing our local juniors miss out on their home grown events and I really am enormously disappointed when our nine holers don’t get a run. But saying that, with success comes a certain amount of frustration and I’d like to assure everyone that all clubs are working hard (as a team) to try and resolve this or any other problems associated with The Tour and I am more than happy to hear any feedback that Tour members feel is appropriate and in the best interest of The Tour.

Given the time it took 127 juniors to complete their rounds on Sunday (five hours and fifteen minutes) it would have been absolutely impossible and irresponsible of the organisers to allow any more competitors to take to the course!

It was a fantastic team effort by the Mount Coolum members and The Tour would like to congratulate their team led by Barry Degenhardt (Captain), Graham James (President) Sharon Purnell (Secretary Manager) and Kevin Smith, Scott Mayes, Bill and Heather Gibbie, Denise Degenhardt and Bev James who did a fantastic job on the score board.

The Tour would personally like to thank Frank Schmidt, Perry Preston and Keith Stockill for the excellent job they do with scoring and keeping our stats up to date. Many thanks to Neil Charkow for keeping our website up to date and fresh so we all stay well informed with what’s happening on Tour. A special thanks to Karl and Matt Preston for helping out by carry things to the car, it’s very much appreciated.

I must say that I’m still well in favour of the old fashioned score board, it brings everyone together and helps keep everyone involved.

The Tour would like to pass on their thanks and appreciation to Mount Coolum’s office staff (Mandy), their bar staff and a big thanks to their caterers who did a brilliant job looking after everyone throughout the day.

Thanks and congratulations to the Course Superintendant and his team for the fantastic job they did in preparing their course. It was in excellent condition and the fantastic weather gave everyone the perfect opportunity to catch up with Tour mates and test their games which is always a great sight to see!

Results

Many thanks to Steven Jenkins “Head Professional” at Mount Coolum for generously supplying me with a cart to enable me to around the course to take photographs and assist in marshalling the field. It certainly makes my job easier and is very much appreciated.

There’s no doubt from the feedback I receive, that the vast majority of our juniors and their families prefer shot gun starts and with the record entries taking to the fairways at Tour Events, it helps create friendships and exposes out juniors to excellent opportunities and good solid competition to all concerned and isn’t that is what The Tour is all about!

AROUND THE TRAPS!!!

More photos can be found in the Gallery on The Invincibles Website!!!

We do apologize for not having our normal awards page, but given that a lot of juniors left prior to presentation and given the confusion that arose out of two competitions being run simultaneously (Mount Coolum Junior Open & Greg Norman Junior Golf Foundations - Points Challenge) we are posting a collage of photos (prize winners below) for those that were at presentation and written results for the 2011 Mount Coolum Junior Open.
