Peregian Springs Junior Open - 2011
News
Congratulations to Peregian Springs Golf Club; With a little help from the weather gods and a lot of hard work and effort from a very enthusiastic group of members and parents, Peregian Springs did a fantastic job in hosting their first ever Junior Open.
It never ceases to amaze me just what can be achieved when a team of like minded people work together and commit to a common cause and that’s just what the team at Peregian Springs did when they ran their first Junior Open under the Greg Norman Junior Golf Foundations banner, to their credit, it worked and worked very well.

I couldn’t help but think that if every club and their members on the Sunshine Coast did likewise, how rich would our Junior Tour be and for that matter how rich would golf in general be?
Congratulations to Matthew Cheung (Pacific) and Lee Hye – Jin (Hills International) for being the Inaugural Champions of the 2011 Peregian Springs Junior Open with scores of 68 and 74 respectively!

The Tournament type atmosphere that was created by Wayne, Bruce and their team was an absolute pleasure to be associated with and it just goes to show, that if clubs and their members work together to support their juniors, it can be a very positive, rewarding and enjoyable experience that helps build a healthy interactive environment within a club!!!

It would be near on impossible to acknowledge and name every individual member that played a part in making Peregian’s day the huge success it was! Bruce Woodhead has asked me to thank and make special mention of Roger Petrie, Rene Baker and Keith Stockill on rego and score cards. Frank Schmidt, Mauren Cary and Jill Webber on the score board. Marshal, Michael Thompson with Ray & Judy Barfield and John O'Grady as Rules Officals and Club Professional Kia McKay. To everyone else that was involved or participated in any way, “well done” you did a brilliant job and you should all be enormously proud of your efforts.

Where sure from the feedback, that juniors and their parents from Peregian and those from all over South East Queensland absolutely appreciated your efforts and made the most of a very well run event!!!
I Know all clubs on the Sunshine Coast, along with The Invincibles Tour are working hard to create a Junior Golfing Tour that will benefit everyone and if the events that have been held so far this year at Caloundra, Caboolture, Redcliffe, Noosa Par 3, Kabi, Pelican Waters and now at Peregian Springs are anything to go by, then our juniors and their families are in for a great future when it comes to junior golf on the Sunshine Coast!!

I think Peregian Springs had just about every base covered when it came to organization, with range balls ready on arrival, coffee, BBQ on the go, the fantastic score board in readiness for the final results, spotters, marshals, rules officials and a team of willing volunteers to do anything and everything that was required to make sure their day was a great success!

On a personal note, I’d like to thank Frank Schmidt and Keith Stockill for their support and for all the hard work they put into making sure The Tour works efficiently and that our stats are kept up to date. Another big thanks must go to a man behind the scenes (Neil Charkow – Website1000) for keeping our website up to date and running smoothly so we can all stay well informed!

It’s always great to win prizes at events, but when you consider that events like the Peregian Springs Junior Open, as well as all other Junior Classics and Opens on the Sunshine Coast gives our juniors the opportunity to qualify for such events as the Greg Norman Junior Masters, The Invincibles IGA Sunshine Coast Junior Masters, The Invincibles, Lend Lease and Hyatt Regency Coolum Gold Cup of Cups Championship and The Invincibles Matchplay Championships, as well as participating in The Invincibles Inter-Club Team Shield.
It gives you some idea of the work and effort that's gone into building a junior development program and tour that's working towards catering to every aspiring young golfers need. All we need is your support to take it to the next level?

Congratulations to Peregian’s course superintendant Warren Green and his team in Brian Wilson and Blake Matthews for having the course in excellent condition, particularly given the rain and difficult weather we’ve experienced of late.

Peregian Springs, Wayne and Bruce have asked me to pass on their thanks and appreciation to their sponsors “above” in Schweppes and Boomerang Golf Supplies. These events wouldn’t be at all possible without their supports and we know we speak for everyone when we say, thanks very much for that support.
On a little bit of down note; There are members out their that believe they have the right to spit the dummy, play slowly, throw tantrums, abuse their equipment, behave badly, swear like drunken sailors and act like spoilt little brats! Well take it from the managers and organizers from every golf club on the Sunshine Coast “your days are number” and a rest is coming your way if you can’t do what’s in the best interest of your fellow competitors and The Tour.
It’s also worth noting that if you’re suspended from your home club, that suspension will be extended into every club on the Sunshine Coast. “The outcome is totally and firmly in your hands”.

We make no apologies for this, as competitors travel long distances to compete and we believe that every junior and their families have the right to enjoy their golf when they come to the Sunshine coast. They deserve the right to be able to compete in a safe, fair and friendly environment, an environment that’s conducive to giving everyone a fair and reasonable opportunity to compete without having to tolerate %*&^%$@#!$ nonsense!!!
