News

On what was the perfect day for golf, IGA and The Invincibles Tour held their seventh Annual IGA Corporate Golf Day “Friday August 12” to raise awareness and funds for Junior Golf on the Sunshine Coast.

Our day was hosted by the enormously challenging and extremely beautiful Pelican Waters Golf Club on what was an absolutely perfect Queensland winters day, 24 degrees with not a cloud in the sky and just the slightest of breezes to talk about and that’s just how we like it!!

The Invincibles Tour along with one hundred and forty four of IGA’s guests couldn’t have asked for a better day out and from where I sat I’m sure everyone made the most of what was a very well run and organized day away from the office!

Your host for the day, Mel Luke (pictured above) is recovering from surgery and couldn’t take part in the day but was thrilled to bits with the way everything ran and is looking forward to playing next year (August 10, 2012 at Noosa Springs).

Before we get into the news letter, there are a few very generous people and organizations that I would like to thank on behalf of The Invincibles Tour and IGA for their encouragement, support and sponsorship of The Invincibles Tour.

Firstly I would like to thank Tim Gall (General Manager) at Pelican Waters; Tim’s a massive supporter of junior golf and a great support to me personally, which I really do appreciate.

I’d also like to thank Michelle Hurd (above right in black), Pelican’s Events & Function Co ordinator, Michelle’s help and support was fantastic and very much appreciated!!

We would also like to pass on our thanks and appreciation to the bar staff, caterers and ground staff at Pelican Waters for once again making sure our day was a great success!!

The Tour would like to pass on their thanks and appreciation to Marshan Miller (above centre) and Angela Daines (above left) for organizing the raffles and helping with registration.

I would like to thank Merv and Toini Norman for sharing in the day as I know they get as much enjoyment out of watching our juniors grow and develop, as we do enjoying their company. We thank you both for sharing in what was another special day on the golf course.

It also gave us the perfect opportunity to celebrate Merv’s and my Birthday’s which was on August 14 and we would like to thank everyone that got into the spirit of things by doing a brilliant rendition of “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU” which was fantastic!!!

A big thanks to Rae Clarke (CEO) and her team from Greg Norman Foundation for coming along to join us in what is traditionally a fantastic day out!! It’s brilliant to see different organizations joining together for a common cause and I must say that’s happening more and more as time goes on, from Golf Australia, the PGA of Australian and Golf Queensland to District Golf Associations and at the end of the day that can only be a good thing for junior golf and golf in general!!!

Congratulations to the Drummond Golf Team (above left) which included Roy McClean, Terry Young along with Daniel Butler and Lee Manning from Titleist for winning their third consecutive IGA Golf Day Title. I know the boys were very disappointed in having their first boggie in three years “but life is tough at the top” Once again the boys donated their first prize back to The Invincibles Tour (four pairs of Footjoy Golf Shoes) to help raise funds for our Junior Golf Program.

Congratulations to the Greg Norman Junior Golf Foundations team (above centre) Rae Clarke, Christina Mew, Tony Rollins and Bob Allen) for taking out second place with The Invincibles Team (above right) coming in third led by Toini Norman, Mikaleigh Pickles, Shae Wools – Cobb and Lochlan Coleborn under the watchful eye and chauffeur driven by Merv Norman!

The Tour would like to think that days like this gives IGA, their staff and guests the perfect opportunity to get away from the office and let their hair down whilst having some fun with friends on what is one of Australia’s greatest golf courses!!!!

Congratulations to Ray Lally (Top) for winning the main raffle valued at close to $2,000.00. Karen Munro (above centre) won the beautifully prepared Schwarzkopf prize whilst Jeff Moore (above left) won the Esky full of Schweppes product and David Burke (above right) won the golf bag which was also donated by Schweppes!!

I would like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the IGA Group, and their suppliers for their support and more importantly for showing confidence and trust in The Invincibles Tour.

On behalf of The Invincibles Tour and IGA I’d like to thank everyone for your support this year, by booking in early, giving your teams names and paying early you made an enormous difference and by doing so you enabled us to set things up more professionally and I think that showed on the day!!!

This year your IGA Corporate day was booked out within nine days and paid up two weeks in advance “a record” and that’s with two groups on every tee box and seven groups being placed on a waiting list just encase of an emergency!!!!

So give yourselves a pat on the back because that’s a fantastic result and a good indicator into just how much everyone has come to enjoy and appreciate the value of your IGA day!!

I’d like to thank the Team in David Burke, Geoff Barnett and Cale Burke who have flown up from Melbourne every year for the past seven to take part in your IGA Day along with Greg Stevens who drove up from the Gold Coast to be part of their team. That’s a brilliant effort and one we really do appreciate!!!

I’d like to make special mention and thank Roy McClean and Terry Young - Drummond Golf, Matthew Rose - Schwarzkopf, Daniel Butler and Lee Manning -Titleist, Rae Clarke, Tony Rollins and Bob Allen – Greg Norman Junior Golf Foundation, Michael Mahon - Mahon Transport for his very generous support of our juniors. Cameron Holmes – Kraft and Cadbury, Paul Eickenloff – Schweppes and Mars for supplying prizes and merchandise for today, it’s very much appreciated and goes a long way towards making the day a great success!!

Many thanks to Perry Preston (above centre) for doing a great job with the auction and to Frank Schmidt for doing a huge job behind the scenes helping me prepare for the day! A huge thanks to the great team in Mikaleigh Pickles, Aneka Park and Javaye Park (right - left) who did a brilliant job setting up and helping me with presentations. It was very much appreciated; your support and input made my life a lot easier!!!

Many thanks to Elliott Sullivan (above left) for running the putting comp prior to teeing off and to Matt Collum (above centre) for playing shots into the very challenging par three sixth “for a fee” for anyone wishing to use his services? I’d also like to thank Mark Harrison, James Vonhoff and Lucas Harris for playing a big part in making sure our day went well.

I’d like to thank and make special mention of Gemma Samen – Curtis for doing a brilliant job taking photos for The Invincibles Gallery and this News Letter, well done Gemma you were an incredible help!!!

Enormous thanks must go to Irene Lally. Our IGA days just wouldn’t be the success and fun they are without her input. Irene “thanks a million” as I do appreciate your friendship and support, it’s very much appreciated!!!
