Well another excellent Sunshine Coast Zone Pennants season has come and gone and one really has to congratulate the committee of the Zone, the Mount Coolum Golf Club and their members for the brilliant job they did in hosting the 2012 Pennants finals!

I'm sure everyone involved took full advantage of a well organised day, enjoyed the challenge and more than appreciated your effort!!!!

It was a magical day and I don't believe the organisers could have asked for more, the weather was absolutely picture perfect for the big occasion, their course and facilities were in magnificent condition thanks to their ground staff and everyone was well and truly looked after thanks to the bar staff, caterers and volunteers who did a brilliant job in making sure the 2012 Sunshine Coast Zone Pennants Finals ran smoothly and most importantly, everyone enjoyed their golf!

Caloundra Golf Club and their junior squad (lead by Marcus Koski – Manager) have to be congratulated for defending their title with a 3 – 2 win over Horton Park which was one of the most exciting finishes that we can recall or witnessed in many a year! Horton Park (lead by Jorgen Ottesen - Manager) should also be congratulated and applauded for the fantastic performance they put in, it's a shame there can be only one winner but the team at Horton can be very proud of their performance and for the way they played the game!

The 3-2 final result didn’t really do justice to how exciting or close the Junior Finals were and that was largely due to the fantastic match between Kodie Koski (Caloundra) and William White (Horton) who came from four down with four to play “dormie” to force the final result into extra time to the delight of the large gallery that had gathered to witness a great contest!

Final Results

Caloundra 3 - 2 Horton Park

Jordan McDonald - Jack Marriott 2/1

Kodie Koski 19th – William White

Ben Blackshaw 3/2 – Simon Britz

Sean Daines – Rory Turner 4/3

Sam Palmer 6/5 – Will Sutherland

Congratulations must also go to young thirteen year old Rory Turner (Horton Park - above left) for achieving a “Hole in One” with his very first shot of the day when he played the perfect 8 iron into the enormously challenging 114 meter par 3 tenth to the delight of the large gallery and fellow team mates!

Other highlights included Jordan McDonald’s (Caloundra) hole out from the bunker for birdie on the same hole which was a brilliant effort. Jack Marriott’s (Horton) second shot into 17 setting up an eagle putt was magnificent. The way White and Koski played their sixteenth hole was world class. William White’s putt on eighteen to force Koski into extra holes was absolutely brilliant given the circumstances.

These are only a few of the many highlights, but the main highlights for those that witnessed this fantastic days golf was in the way all contestants represented their clubs, the great spirit in which the game was played and the excellent speeches that were given at presentation.

Another great highlight and thrill to everyone was to see Matthew Durham “who’s recovering well from his stroke” and the fantastic galleries that came out to support their clubs and friends which was a fantastic sight to see!

All in all we believe the 2012 Junior Boys Final was an absolute credit to everyone and showcased some of the enormous talent that is coming up through our clubs on the Sunshine Coast!!!
