2012 WEEKEND PENNANTS WBBD LADIES & JUNIOR GIRLS

Round 1
The first game was played at Tewantin Noosa Golf Club and the course was in great condition although the greens were lightening fast. One of the closest games of the day was the match between Shania Herzog-Smith from Peregian Springs with a handicap of 11 playing against Mikaleigh Pickles representing Caloundra with a handicap of 4. Both girls had their opportunities but it was a closely contested game to the last hole, with the result being a squared match on the 18th. Well done to both Shania and Mikaleigh.

In a second match between Caloundra and Peregian Springs, Aneka Park from Caloundra with a handicap of 9 played one of the Members from Peregian Springs. Aneka had to give 10 shots to her opponent which isn’t easy. The match resulted in a 3/2 win to Peregian but there were several holes which were very close and Aneka played well. It is hard to believe that this time last year Aneka had a handicap of 19 and she has reduced it to 9 during the last twelve months. Well done Aneka.

In the match between Pacific Harbour and Nambour, Talisa McLachlan from Pacific Harbour with a handicap of 11, played one of the Nambour Ladies who had a handicap of 18. Talisa playing as the number one player for her Club had to give 7 shots and squared the match on the 18th hole. A great match Talisa – well done.

Round 2
The second round of Pennants was played on Sunday 12th February at the Beerwah Golf Club. The course itself played well, but the greens had just been scarified and were very rough. In the match between Caloundra and Headland,

Aneka Park playing off 9 had to give 9 shots to her opponent, one of the Headland Members. It was a closely fought game but resulted in a 2 up win for Headland. Good attempt Aneka.

Gympie played Peregian Springs in one of the other matches. One of the Gympie Ladies played against Shania Herzog-Smith and as they both had a handicap of 10 it was a fairly even draw. After a bit of a slow start Shania started putting extremely well on the rough greens and won the match 5/4. Great job Shania

Round 3
On Sunday 19th February round three of Weekend Ladies and Junior Girls Pennants was played at Caboolture Golf Course in extremely hot conditions. The course was in good condition with the greens being very fast.

In the match between Peregian Springs and Tewantin Noosa, Victoria Fricot had a very convincing win of 7/5 over one of the Ladies from Tewantin Noosa.  Victoria, playing off a handicap of 2, had to give 15 shots to her opponent. Both of the players played well however the young junior was extremely focused and practiced good course management.      Victoria hit her approach shots to the greens with great precision and chipped well. Well done Victoria. Peregian Springs won 4 games and Tewantin Noosa won 1 game.

The match between Caloundra and Pacific Harbour was very even with both teams winning 2 games and squaring 1 game. Both teams received 3 points for a squared match. Aneka Park from Caloundra with a handicap of 9 lost a very close match to her opponent playing off a handicap of 12. This game was lost on the last hole with Pacific Harbour winning 1 up. It was a closely contested match. Well played Aneka, you almost won. Next time?

One of the other matches between Caloundra and Pacific Harbour was between two of the Junior Girls.   Mikaleigh Pickles representing Caloundra played Talisa McLachlan from Pacific Harbour and they squared the match on the 18th hole.    Mikaleigh playing off a handicap of 4 had to give 7 shots to Talisa. Both girls played well and it was a hard fought match all the way. Well done to both of these juniors. They are great representatives for their Clubs and they play a vital role in the senior competition.
